Sewist Studio × Runway
See the dress before you cut the fabric.
I taught myself to sew from TikTok, and I have no one to ask when I'm stuck. Sewist Studio is the live web app I built for home sewists. Today I rebuilt all of its AI features on the Runway API and created 5 new ones, so it shows you the finished garment, on the person you're sewing for, and talks you through the sewing.
7 minute demo, including a live call with Wren. Narrated with Runway text-to-speech. Every image and video in it was made on the Runway API.
How it uses Runway Dev
- See it: reference-first garment renders from the pattern envelope, fabric and wearer photos (Gemini 3 Pro Image and Gen-4 Image Turbo via the Runway API), print close-ups with Magnific.
- Move it: Gen-4.5 image to video, with ElevenLabs fabric sound.
- Wear it: Aleph 2 video to video puts the planned dress on her in a real phone video, keeping her motion and the room.
- Sew it: Wren, a live Runway Character on the React SDK, with a server-side session and two live tools that open your project and search your stash.
- Plan it: mood boards on a Runway Model Router that picks the cheapest model, 1 credit a tile.
