    Embroidery File Viewer

    How it works

Machine embroidery files are lists of needle moves: stitches, jumps, trims and color changes, measured in tenths of a millimeter. The viewer reads those moves directly in your browser, draws every stitch in sewing order, and adds up the finished size, stitch count and thread changes.

Thread colors come from the file when it stores them (PES, JEF, VP3, XXX). DST and EXP only record where the color changes happen, so you'll see placeholder colors in the correct order. Hoop fit compares the design to the sewing fields of standard 4x4, 5x7, 6x10 and 8x12 inch hoops, in either orientation.

Use the sew-out slider to watch the design stitch in order, and turn on Jumps & trims to see where the machine travels between areas.

    Frequently asked questions

Which embroidery file formats can I open?

PES and PEC (Brother and Baby Lock), DST (Tajima), JEF (Janome), EXP (Melco), VP3 (Pfaff and Husqvarna Viking) and XXX (Singer). HUS files are not supported yet.

    Is my design uploaded anywhere?

No. The viewer reads the file in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. Files are only stored if you sign in and choose to save them to your embroidery library.

Why are the colors different from what I expected in a DST file?

DST and EXP files store stitches and color changes but not thread colors, so the viewer shows placeholder colors in the right order. PES, JEF, VP3 and XXX files carry their own thread colors, which the viewer uses.

How is the sew-out time estimated?

Stitch count divided by your machine speed, plus about a minute for each thread change and a few seconds per trim. Real times vary with your machine, density and how quickly you rethread.

Can I convert a PES file to DST here?

No. Sewist Studio shows and organizes embroidery files but does not convert between formats. Free tools such as Ink/Stitch can convert files if your machine needs a different format.
