A doll dress takes a fat quarter, an evening and no fitting, which is why doll clothes are such a good scrap-buster and first project with a child. The catch is size: a pattern for an 18 inch doll won't fit a 14.5 inch WellieWisher or a Barbie. So this list is sorted by doll, and we opened every pattern on October 27, 2026.

1. Check the seam allowance on every pattern. Most use 1/4 inch, some use 3/8 or 1/2 inch. On a doll with a 5 inch chest, an extra 1/8 inch per seam is the difference between fitting and not. Print at 100 percent ("actual size") and measure the test square before cutting.
2. Hook-and-loop for kids, snaps for collectors. Narrow hook-and-loop tape (trim it to about 1/4 inch) is easiest for small hands, but it snags doll hair and knits, so close it before washing. Tiny snaps or buttons look nicer on display dolls.
3. Choose small-scale, lightweight fabric. Tiny prints, thin knits and lawn look right at doll scale; heavy fabric makes bulky seams. Outgrown kids' tees are ideal for knit tops, and felt saves hemming at Barbie and Blythe scale.
