20 Free Projector Sewing Patterns, Checked October 2026
A projector saves hours of printing and taping, but most free patterns only come as print-at-home PDFs. Here are 20 free patterns whose own page says a projector file is included.

Why a projector file matters
Projecting a pattern straight onto your fabric skips printing, trimming and taping, but you need a projector file: a single-layer PDF drawn to project at true scale, usually with a calibration grid. Most free patterns don't include one. Several big names we checked (Helen's Closet, Closet Core, Tessuti, Mood Sewciety and Itch to Stitch) offer free patterns as print-at-home or A0 files only.
So this list has one rule: the pattern's own page has to say a projector file is included. We opened every page on October 27, 2026. New to projecting? Our projector gear guide covers setups at every budget.
How each one is free:
- Pay what you can: choose the free ($0) option at checkout.
- $0 checkout: add to cart and pay nothing; some shops add you to their email list.
- Email: enter your email and the download link is sent to you. Patterns for Pirates' free links expire after 30 days, so save the files straight away.

One gap worth knowing: almost every free projector pattern is a knit or a simple shape. We couldn't find a free fitted woven garment with a projector file.
Three tips for projecting your first pattern
- Calibrate before every cut, then check with a ruler. Project the calibration grid or test square and measure it. If it's off, recalibrate rather than trusting the edges of the pattern.
- Turn off every size except yours. Most of these files are layered. Hiding the other sizes turns nested lines into one clean outline, which matters on dark or busy fabric.
- Use a projection app, not a plain PDF viewer. Pattern Projector is a free, open-source web app that calibrates against your cutting mat and can hide layers, thicken lines and invert colors. PDFStitcher, also open source, can turn layers off and recolor lines in any PDF, which helps when a pattern has no projector file.
What we left out
- Free patterns without a stated projector file, including Helen's Closet, Closet Core, Tessuti, Mood Sewciety, Itch to Stitch's Uvita, and Friday's Sport Shorts.
- Peppermint, whose patterns now cost money.
- One-size-only freebies and $0 markdowns that aren't in a shop's permanent free collection.
Keep track of which patterns project
Once you own a projector, "does this one have a projector file?" becomes the first question you ask. Sewist Studio is a free digital sewing room: save these PDFs to your pattern library and tag each one by format (projector, A0, print at home), so you can pull up everything that's ready to project.
