Shop these patterns — curated web matches with thumbnails, brand, pattern number, and direct links. Amazon listings use Sewist Studio's affiliate tag (so the project keeps running), but the matching itself is unbiased — what the AI thinks is closest comes first, regardless of source.

The AI also returns a structured garment profile: silhouette, garment type, neckline, sleeve type, length, key construction features, suggested fabrics, and notions. That profile is what powers the matching — and it's also useful on its own when you want to brief a pattern drafter or write a clear search query.

A few tips, learned from thousands of finder runs:

• Use 2–8 photos when you can. Front, back, side, and a close-up of any unusual detail (closure, sleeve, hem). The AI fuses them into a stronger profile than any single photo.
• Crop the garment if other things distract. Pets, busy backgrounds, and multiple people confuse the silhouette extraction.
• Tell the finder anything you already know. There's a notes field for "I want this in linen", "must have pockets", "no buttons". It biases the matches toward those constraints.
• For RTW garments, lay them flat. A photo of a hanging or worn dress is fine, but a flat-lay surfaces the silhouette best.
• For pattern envelopes, scan the front. The finder handles those too — and adds the result to your library if you like it.

• Closet recreation. Photograph a beloved RTW dress whose seams are giving out, and find the pattern to sew its successor.
• Wedding-guest panic. Two weeks until the event, no time to browse — upload the inspiration photo and start sewing.
• Pattern de-duplication. Before checking out an Etsy cart, run each thumbnail through the finder. If your stash already has it, skip the purchase.

The finder is great at: silhouette, garment type, sleeve and neckline shape, length, closure style, structural features.

It's not as strong at: exact print/colorway matching, very fine trim details, or distinguishing between two near-identical patterns from different brands.
